Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are described as affectionate, bright, and sensitive dogs who are categorized in the sporting group of dog breeds. They are solid-colored, either chocolatey brown, sedge, or deadgrass, with keen yellow-amber eyes. They are a short haired breed with a soft undercoat and a harsh outer coat, yet they do shed, but don’t require much grooming or bathing. They are considered a large sized breed with a height ranging from 23-26 inches for the males, and 21-24 inches for the females. They have an average weight of 65-80 pounds for the males, and 55-70 pounds for the females. Their life expectancy is 10-13 years.
