Collies are described as devoted, grateful, and proud dogs who are categorized in the herding group of dog breeds. The two base color genes in collies are brown (sable) and black (tri color). Collies are double-coated, so the shedding is quite heavy and lasts year-round especially in the change and seasons. They are considered a medium dog breed with a height ranging from 24-26 inches for the males, and 22-24 inches for the females. They have an average weight of 60-75 pounds for males, and 50-65 pounds for the females. They have a life expectancy of 12-14 years.
